If you are a business owner, it’s easy to assume that you won’t be able to fully disconnect during the holiday season. To feel torn between watching a movie with your family and answering that last email. The truth is that when you are an entrepreneur, you never really stop working, not even on holidays. After all, the success of your business is riding on your shoulders. Understandably, it is difficult to determine when to put in the work hours and when to enjoy the time off.
Yet, the holiday season is a great time to recharge. Take a step back and enjoy your personal life, for there’s no point in working so hard if you can’t also appreciate your leisure time.
Here are three things you can do to help you juggle your personal life and your work needs during the holiday period.
Let go of the 9-5 mentality and instead prioritize the tasks that really need to be tackled. Organize them in a specific timeframe and when that time comes around, focus only on those items. This prevents you from multitasking and getting distracted by other things. By developing an organized schedule ahead of time, you will know when you can turn off the computer and enjoy the holiday.
Prioritize the things that matter
You might feel guilty for spending time with your family and friends instead of answering an email. But a true leader, however, knows how to compartmentalize their time. You need to ask yourself, “Is this truly an emergency that needs to be solved today, or can it wait?”. Give yourself permission to turn off the phone and leave it in another room while you are having family time.
Change your mindset
Yes, when you are an entrepreneur, you make sacrifices. Which sometimes means spending less time with your loved ones during special occasions. Nonetheless, you have to remember why you created your business in the first place. One of those reasons is likely to be to make a better life for yourself and those around you. If you are feeling overwhelmed with the number of personal and professional demands to define your obligations and interests, then commit to them.
